Caribbean Basketball Championships
St.Thomas, V.I.--The Virgin Islands Basketball Federation will play host
to the 16th Annual Caribbean Basketball Championships from June 28 to
July 7 at the University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness
Center.
Countries in the tournament, formerly known as the Caricom Basketball
Championships, include:
10 Men National Teams to compete: Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas,
Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Jamaica,
St. Kitts & Nevis, St.
Vincent & the Grenadines, Virgin Islands
5 National Women Teams to compete: Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Jamiaca, Puerto
Rico, Virgin Islands.
Single-game tickets will be $8 for adults and $4 for children.
Tournament passes are $60 for adults and $30 for children.

The following dates have been set for the Virgin Islands Basketball
Federation's 2002 Activities
Monday: Training camp begins for Junior Men's National Team (must be
born after Jan 1, 1984).
June 2: Young Women's National Team travels to Guatemala City, Guatamala
June 4-8 Young Women's Centro Basket Tournament begins in Guatamala
City, Guatamala
All athletes must have a valid U.S. passport to participate in all VIBF
activities. Any athlete not born in the Virgin Islands must
present a copy of his or her parents or grandparents who must have been
born in the Virgin Islands. Any athlete or parent who is a
naturalized citizen must have been naturalized in the U.S. Virgin
Islands and must present a copy of the naturalization certificate.

The 2002
Caribbean Basketball Championships Organizing Committee has scheduled
two meetings for supporters and volunteers. The St. Croix Steering
Committee will meet Friday March 22, 6 pm at the St. Croix Central High
School Gym (Ronald Charles Basketball Arena). The St. Thomas/St.
John Steering Committee will meet on Saturday March 23, 10 am at the
Palm Courts Harbor View Hotel Community Room. Interested volunteers
